#Repost @tailboard_trash417 ・・・ Work capacity: the left out element to training for firefighters. We have a large group of guys that "slay" at crossfit or whatever you ladies at box call it. We have bodybuilders who look like Greek gods and powerlifters who are stronger than 99% of people on earth and yet it's the 40 or 50 something's guy who is still working at the fire after we have all sucked down a few bottles. Why? They have developed a mindset for work and built their bodies to respond accordingly. Either through years of hard work, maybe a mental strengthening that we never experienced like going to war and they just "do". I don't have the finite answer to develop this "work capacity" but I do know it starts with movement. Get off your ass and get outside in the elements. That's where our work is done, be there. Add weight to yourself, weight vest is a great choice, suit case handles, trap bar something, then emulate what you do. Drag, hit, pull, throw some heavy shit, jump high, jump far, swing something,walk for a distance. It's nothing revolutionary. I recently heard of a probationary firefighter who "had a lot of quit in him" I've heard this statement directed at several young firemen over the past couple of years. If this the case and its new generation that will be moving through the ranks we will have to grow them and teach them how to work. Hope you found something of value in this. This is my favorite stretch to do prior to deadlifting/squatting. Take a heavy resistance band and set it up overheard on an anchor (pull-up bar). Pull it down and through your body, wrapping it around your low back. Go to the ground and lay motionless on your back, legs spread wide resting on the rack, opening up the hips letting the band pull you up. Hold this position for 3-5 minutes!
