TIGHTNESS EPIDEMIC!!! "No man I can't squat because my (insert random muscle) is tight!!" In most cases I call bullshit on that When performing any exercise (especially squat) there are a lot of factor to be taken in consideration such as: bar placement, limbs length and proportion, knees and feet position and many others. All this factor completely change the way one individual will perform the movement respect to another person Disclaimer; I'm not saying the mobility/stretching routine are useless, but in my opinion are OVER AND MISS USED most of the time Client A Vince(left): very long torso. His squat (front in this case) will be very upright and deep because the bar MUST stay in the middle of is foot in order to be in balance Client B Bill (right): Bill torso is shorter compared to Vince, therefore he MUST leaning slightly forward to maintain the bar in the middle of is foot. No matter how many stretching/mobility drill bill will do, he would NEVER perform a squat like vince Not taking in consideration all the different variables that play a role in a squat (and all the other exercise), and simply dismiss it as "you are tight you need to stretch", it show lack of basic biomechanics knowledge In conclusion 1.if you are a trainer: before prescribe to your client random stretching/mobility routine for non existing tight muscles, do your homework 2.if you are a client: if your session is composed of 90% of stretching, mobility, foam rolling, band exercises instead of actually working out, is probably time to change trainer

MOBILITY & STABILITY ‍♂️ (low back example) . Our bodies are smart. 🤓Regarding movement, in simplified terms this means if one joint doesn't move enough a neighbouring joint will move extra to make up for it, and vice versa. . ❌This isn't good. It's how compensation patterns and eventually pain can develop. . For example, the lumbar spine (low back) should be relatively stable. With injury/improper use it can move too much, and the neighbouring joints (ie. the hips) become immobile to make up for the lack of stability. . It doesn't matter which came first 🐣, but focusing on just core exercises to create stabilty for that 'weak' low back wont work, you need to include hip mobility into your program to create successful lasting results. . These patterns of neighbouring joints happen throughout the WHOLE BODY. Dysfunction at one joint often presents as pain in a joint above/below.
