If your a new mum and want lose the baby weight or you have started a weight loss campaign, do not live and die by the scale. It will break you down and tear down your confidence. What you should be aware of is that frequent weighing is misleading. Did you know that your weight can fluctuate considerably in one day. There are some factors that can add to the reasons so hence stay off those scales. Some factors that may influence the difference in your scales are: * Water retention * Food your eating * Waste in your system * Females - menstrual cycle or hormones * Muscle tissue - if your exercising already So these are just couple reasons to stay off the scales and stop weighing all the time. Ask yourself this: Would you rather fill your jeans, shorts, t-shirts, dress or skirt with 4kg of fat or 4kg of lean, toned muscle? This extra lean muscle tissue has its benefits. Not only will you appear smaller, but muscle will help raise your metabolism too. Now that you’re armed with the knowledge that the scales does tell fibs and that weight is only a number, you can view your weight fluctuations with a less critical eye. What's your fitness story? My week started with a few people asking me how/why/where my fitness journey began, which caused me to take a step back & analyze the last 5 years of my life. It also got me thinking, where did everyone else's journey begin, why did everyone else start, & how has everyone's journeys progressed? So what's my story? In 2013, I rang in the new year at my highest weight, I was sick of seeing how I looked. I joined a gym & quickly began a weightloss routine that allowed me to lose 70lbs in 12 months. As 2014 began, I soon found out I was pregnant. Due to the pregnancy, I found myself trying to learn to become a single mom all while going from 2 a days in the gym quickly to high-risk bed rest for 7 months. It was during that time, I realized 4 hours in the gym & eating the same food every single day was not emotionally or physically healthy for my body despite the scale going down. During that time, I ended up gaining every pound back that I had lost along with a few more. I began playing tug a war emotionally with my own body & self-confidence as I would love it for being able to carry fullterm & being proud of my daily challenges I'd go through, while at the same time hating it for allowing myself to gain back the weight. Here I am 3 years later & I still play tug a war with my own emotions but I'm trying & I'm improving. Now, I'm more cautious with my relationship to the gym & food because I know that I had an unhealthy addiction/obsession with that lifestyle before, I know that I have someone else to take care of besides myself, & I also know that I need to focus on more small everyday changes that will eventually add up while just being more active in daily activities I'd normally do anyways. It's working too, slowly, but it's working. The scale is starting to go down as well as my dress size, but it doesn't mean that the mental war inside my head is any less. I still struggle, I still have bad days & good days, & I still fight the mental game of trying to balance being a great mother, college student, healthy example, & wanting to slip back into an unhealthy obsession with food & the gym to see my weight drop but so far I'm winning.
Going to thicken things up this year. It won’t be easy or quick but I have a well thought out strategy. Time to execute on it. 💯 #timetogrow #thisisthegrind
