The Hellfire Pass was the most deadly section of the Thailand to Burma railway project. No tools were used to create this excavation; only explosives and man power. ~ It took the lives of many men, including: POW, forced labourers and wounded Japanese soldiers. ~ The prisoners would be forced to work in horrendous conditions; with poor sanitation, little food and rest and, for most, not even a pair of shoes. ~ It became known as the Hellfire Pass because the flickering torch lights on the prisoner's emaciated bodies looked liked a scene from hell... ~ ~ #hellfire #hellfirepass #history #thailandexplorer #museum #sadtruth #thailand🇹🇭 #thailand #thai #kanchanaburi #offthehooktravel #thoughtprovoking #begrateful #rip #sad
A marble portrait bust of Madame Récamier after the model by Joseph Chinard (French, 1756-1813) 19th century, lot 319. Lot 365, a daybed, or chaise longue, a form of seat furniture that was re-christened “recamier” after an unfinished portrait of Madame, reclining on a daybed, staring piercingly, directly at the viewer by none other than Jacques-Louis David. Unsure why David would not complete her portrait, it is recorded that David said to Madame Récamier, “Madame, women have their caprices; artists have theirs too. Allow me to pander to mine; I shall keep your portrait as it stands”. There you have it. These and over 400 other intriguing items in our 3 March auction. When you are feeling down and feeling that nothing you do is ever good enough, know that you are more than enough. And yes there is always room for improvement but when it comes to my self-worth I always have to remind myself that I am enough.
Today we’ve had our minds stretched at the Osaka National Art Gallery. Very thought provoking exhibition by Christian Boltanski, if a little gloomy. The subject was death!
