People ask me all the time what my favorite thing to photograph is, since all of us over here do a lot of different stuff (🙋🏼‍♀️ hiiii, Michele here, if you hadn’t guessed that already), and I always say “women” (....duh) — but, to narrow that down even more, there is literally nothing I love more than to photograph someone when they are experiencing emotion. Going through something, in some way. Even if it’s unspoken, and even if we are laughing about goofy stuff between shots, just that open acceptance and acknowledgement that that person is feeling something, a vulnerability, and is willing to share that space with you for you to make it into art. I don’t go into any of my creative shoots with much of a concept, I show up and wait for a feeling, and then I follow it. So when someone’s willing to show up and give me a raw, imperfect, brutally honest piece of themselves, THAT is my favorite thing to photograph. So lately I've been trying out a new attitude. I've been acting more confident and carrying myself like I'm a queen who doesn't give a FUCK what other people think. I've been telling myself "let's be honest, I'm a fucking catch! I'm beautiful and smart and confident and strong," and it's actually been helping! I'm starting to believe all those things. #authenticselfie We need to stop telling girls that when a boy hits them that they like them. We need to stop the narrative we tell little boys that violence is a totally acceptable way to show affection. A boy who hits you isn’t telling you he loves you, just like a man who hits you isn’t showing you he loves you. Violence and love are not intertwined, they are so far removed. My daughter came home and told me that her friend knew a boy liked her because he kicked her!!!! I sat her down and said someone who hits you isn’t telling you they like you, they are simply hitting you. And if that’s the way they show love, then you need to help them learn that it isn’t ok. I want my girls to know the difference between love and violence. WTF, honestly, why is this even a thing!
Here’s the thing... you don’t have to be open about your mental health if you don’t feel safe to be that vulnerable but just don’t lie. Trust me? It will make you feel worse and it will make you feel fake. If you went to a party and it was shit, don’t post saying “best night ever!”, write something else... anything else. Everyone wants to blame social media for everything but we are conscious humans who control our behaviours. Social media is not a separate part of your life. If you wouldn’t behave like that in real life, don’t put it on the internet. #ScarredNotScared

Have you tried the farmer’s carry? It’s a killer exercise for strength, stability, and even fat loss if that’s your jam! . Loaded carry exercises— like the hex bar version that @abstrctevlbrbie is doing in this photo—are great for building strength in your shoulders, back, abs, core, forearms, quads, calves, glutes and hands. Depending on your level of ability and the main effect that you’re going for you can experiment with doing longer or shorter sets, usually in the range of 30s to 2 minutes. . Oh and did I mention that they’ll make you better at carrying your groceries inside all in one go without hurting yourself or dropping things? Talk about a functional movement!

i almost didn't go to yoga today. not because i didn't want to. my body felt strong and able. but because my skin is healing from an ovulation breakout and i've neglected my armpit and leg hair even though it's summer (lol). can you believe that? i guess i can tell myself i was irrationally fearful of judgment. but really, i was shaming myself. i decided to go. my skin, my body hair—none of that mattered during that hour. my practice was about me, grounding myself, releasing expectations, filling my cells with oxygen, feeling my body, focusing, balancing, strengthening. and while i felt "better" when i noticed my instructor was rocking her armpit hair during our first sun salutation, truly, none of that matters, at all. ever. my worth is more than what’s on my body, or how i look. and while my hair isn't there to stay, my journey towards self-love and self-acceptance is never ending 〰️ menstruation cravings: kale, romaine, ghee roasted pumpkin, smoked salmon, beet and carrot sauerkraut, and rye.
