Cyclists, runners or any endurance athletes how many days a week if any do you dedicate to weight training? Being fairly new to endurance sports I'm always intrested in how endurance athletes include weight training. I enjoy adding weight training to my cycling season. I'm deffiently not the strongest guy in the gym (hours on a bike hasn't done much for my muscular physique) or someone who will spend hours a day in it. Mindful Monday When you exercise today, be mindful of what is happening in your body to support you through each workout. Pay attention to the way your breathing increases as your heart works harder to pump more blood to your muscles. Feel your lungs call for more oxygen as your breathing increases. Feel your muscles contracting and expanding and screaming at you for more oxygen to keep working. Feel how alert your mind seems when you exercise, because of the increased blood flow to it. Feel the way your joints move. Exercise can place as much as 5-6 times your body weight on them. All this is happening without you even thinking about. This weekend after around 8 hours on my feet I successfully but also unsuccessfully ran my first ultra. Unfortunately early on in the race I and the person I was running with missed a turn meaning we misssd a small distance of the race and were disqualified for not completing the whole distance. I'm happy with how it all went and how I felt my performance was. Mistakes were made and I can live with that, lessons were learned. Next year hopefully I won't get lost like the last two years and can snag myself a podium finish. Today last year was my last competative sporting event. For the last 2hrs of a 24hr survival event I crawled on my hands and knees as I could no longer walk, I knew I would never finish the race but also that I would not quit. I truely hope one day to regain that mental strength and enjoy what life has to offer when you believe in yourself. #rebuilding #endurance #mentalhealth #mankyfeet
Endurance cycle racing in 2018 has been such an adventure, The TransAtlantic Way then the Transcontinental Race TCRNo6. My charity cause this year was for MPS Society, an inspiring boy called Archie who has the life limiting disease gave me the reason to cycle across Europe.
