|| Client Progress || Some of the training methods we utilize here at @tsfitnessnyc Here I put our client Scott through a series of three movements performed using a descending ladder rep scheme. We start with 10 reps of each, then 9 reps and so on, climbing down the ladder until we end with 1 single rep of each exercise. This type of approach builds strength, muscular endurance and character- because it is also mentally taxing. For Scott I selected the #PushUp on the #FoamRoller for shoulder stability, #TRX Rows for his core and pulling muscles then #Squats with a front loaded #kettlebell for.., well the entire body. FOAM ROLLING - almost everyone can benefit from foam rolling. What does it do? Besides being a GREAT pillow after a tough workout, it can also help break up stiff tissue called myofascia. Now, a lot of people think muscles get tight, but more likely you feel stiff because this thin layer of myofascia is actually sticking to and restricting your muscles. Think of it like a thin layer of cobwebs 🕷 layered over your muscle tissue. Over time, this can all get tight and gunky. (You can actually look up some gnarly YouTube videos showing this on cadavers) So what’s a great way to get those tissues sliding and gliding over each other? Foam rolling! . . Here, Fran is using a high density foam roller that you can easily buy on Amazon for about $15. She starts by rolling her upper back in 6-12 inch sections, working her way up or down depending on where she started. If she feels a tight spot, she’ll roll that area a little longer. She can also flip the roller so she rolls side to side and hits her spinal erectors a bit more. Next she’ll flip over and do her upper thigh and quads, sometimes turning sideways to get her tight IT band running down the side of her thighs. After that, she’ll do her calves since a lot of lower back tightness can actually be related to calf and foot tissue restrictions. (Pro tip: Use a lax ball to get your feet loosened up!) A minute on each area everyday is better than a marathon session once a week. Remember, we’re looking for long term maintenance. . . Foam rolling is a great thing to do anytime of day and before or after a workout.
