It’s self-care Sunday! Okay, I know, every day should be filled with self-care, but often Sundays provide us a little more time to look after ourselves. - What can you do today to help look after yourself? If you’ve been busy, don’t feel guilty about putting your feet up and relaxing for a while. I feel like we all put so much emphasis on being busy and productive that we can neglect our health. - If you’ve got the sunshine like I have here, why not have a short walk to enjoy it and the fresh air? - If you can’t get outside, how about spending 10 minutes stretching or doing yoga? If you have a foam roller or spikey massage ball, spend a couple of minutes releasing any muscle tension. - I’m going to go for a (bracing!) walk along the seafront before cooking a mini-roast. I LOVE foam rollers - I do use them for rolling (they get a bad rep but there are definitely stretches and tension relief that the foam roller is great for) but I mostly use it for challenging strength, balance and coordination💥 . . . This one is easy and hard at the same time - easy because you really don’t have to do anything special... Hard because you don’t have to do anything special except let yourself fall... so it requires a bit of trust on your part, but once you’re on your way you’ll not want to stop! 🛑 . . . Make sure your entire spine and head are on the roller before you set off. Then bring the legs up table top, one at a time (feel anything already?) followed by the arms - don’t try to keep your balance and as soon as anything hits the ground come right back up😉 . . . This exercise will develop your ability to stabilize once you’ve come out of stability (and isn’t that the whole point??) and zero in on your receptive core - meaning that your stabilizers will kick in without you having to think about engaging them (pretty useful to support your spine for example) - oh and remember to breathe while you’re doing this 💨 👍 . . . Long story short, working these skills will teach you to better respond to the demands of daily life by making you stronger and smarter in your body!🧐 🧠 Plus it’s fun and simple and you might even break a sweat💦- let’s roll! 😂 . . .ps. I find that just doing a regular for my #chest and #lowerback doesn’t always do it for me - which is why I’m #stretching on the #foamroller - learned this stretch thanks to my #fitnessguru - none other than the #queenoffitness @jillianmichaels - it’s one of the #best #mosteffective ways to #openyourheart and #release the tension in those #pecs Also having suffered from major #back issues for way too long, I find the #standing lower back stretch demonstrated by me in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th pictures (swipe right to left to see) really ease up the tension not only in my lower back but also my #obliques and #ql muscles. Try and hold the stretches for a minimum of 30 seconds each after really starting to feel it.
