After you've been training for a couple years, you can move on to a more advanced split. One of the splits I recommend is a push/pull/legs routine. - In this routine, you train each body part 2x per week. The first time, you train the body part for strength and functional hypertrophy (mainly in the 4-6 rep range), and then the 2nd time, you'll train the body part for hypertrophy and functional hypertrophy (mainly in the 6-12 rep range). - This split allows you to train with high intensity, as well as have a high amount of volume (both will lead to muscle growth). Since you're training for strength in the first half of the week, this sets you up to lift more weight the 2nd half of the week when you're training to build muscle. This is the beauty of this split. - I'd only recommend this for people who've already gained at least 30-40lbs of muscle. It's not really for beginners (although, a beginner could still grow on this routine, they are better off doing a full body workout). - I know a bunch of bros are going to hate on this, but it's because they're frustrated with their lack of results on their bro split. 💥Read Below💥 - - Should you always train to failure? The answer is no, and here is why. - - Always training to failure destroys all other sets that come after that set in a particular workout. This reduces your volume and as we know that volume is the key driver of muscle growth, this directly impacts hypertrophy. - - Other disasvantage of always going to failure is that you are significantly increasing your risk of injury if you are an intermediate and especially advanced because you are strong enough to seriously injure yourself. Staying shy of failure will reduce this risk. - - Fatigue and potential of overtraining are another disadvantages. - - 💥Practical application💥 - - What I like to do is stay shy of failure, 1-2 repetitions in reserve, and then the closer I get to my deload week the closer I go to failure. If I train for example this week and I know that next week is my deload, I would probably go to one rep shy of failure or even to failure on some exercises. The reason is obvious. 5 years apart // 2 years of serious training and conscious nutrition 💪🏼🙏 I woke up today feeling so blessed to have the healthy body I have, and the privilege of working out whenever I feel like. To most people the gym is an enemy...and at times it can be. Yesterday I had an incredible dysphoric “attack” at the gym and afterwards. I know myself and therefore I know what triggered it. But I know this feeling of dysphoria will never completely leave me. We just need to know ourselves and understand it, accept it, make peace with it, even when it seems hopeless and helpless. 💪👀TRAINING ARMS IN ISOLATION👀💪 by @thecorporatefitnessguy ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Arms are probably my favourite muscle group to exercise for a couple of reasons. 1) the pump is great, 2) you can really feel the arms filling up with blood and 3) quite frankly, they’re not as difficult as large compound lifts on your upper or lower body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This last point creates issues when it comes to fat loss though. The workouts are not as difficult because your isolating some of the smallest muscle groups in the body meaning the overall exertion you’re putting your body under is less than if you were training legs or back or chest. If you’re looking to prioritise fat loss, ditch ‘arm day’ and focus on large compound lifts such as squats, deadlifts or bench press and tag some arms on the end of the workout or in some supersets.
