Back in 2012, the New York Times Magazine published an article called "Why Women Can't Do Pull-Ups." The piece was understandably slammed. (Google it and you'll see why.)⠀ I think about that article every time I work on pull-ups. 😡 The fact that a national, progressive publication would publish would dare discourage women like me motivates me like nothing else! But when overcoming obstacles - in the gym, at work, within society, or really anywhere in life - being pissed off isn't enough. You need a plan. Here's mine:⠀ 1. Take responsibility. Talk to somebody about where you're failing. (I know. Yikes.) There's something about saying it out loud that enables us to truly own our shortcomings and move forward.⠀ 2. Get some feedback. Listen actively to constructive criticism. Instead of dismissing suggestions, ask how they might be altered to fit your situation.⠀ 3. Find your "why" and make it your intention. Look at everything you do, find it's larger purpose, and let that inform every decision you make.⠀ 4. Confront your fear. It's behind every roadblock. Ask yourself what your afraid of, whether it could actually happen, and if yes, how you can move forward while also protecting yourself.⠀ 5. Stop comparing yourself to others. This is something I'm actively working on. And it is so. damn. hard! But nobody's journey is quite like yours. So why compare the results? Day for and still going strong. I got in a 40 miss LISS treadmill walk, 12. % incline 1.5 speed. I used to be able to get up to 15% and 2.4 speed and be in the fat burn zone but I was a lot fitter then so going to work up to it. My legs are not nearly as sore as I thought they would be from yesterday’s BBG leg workout which means I wasn’t nearly as rusty as I though which is good news. Life with two little ones is tough and tougher some days but so far I consider myself very lucky and I’m managing the balance pretty effectively. I’m under no illusion that it will always be this way, but I’m very grateful that I have an incredible little baby boy and a little girl who helps me to match. This balance would no be possible without all her help. So I’ve been eating really really bad lately...my skin is breaking out and been finding myself bloated all the time - which is why i wasn’t really posting I guess 😕 but looking at everyone’s posts, it is inspiring me to work harder! Thinking of planning out my meals more so I don’t find myself just buying food at the canteen or going for instant noodles (yeah...bad) haha. Anyone have any quick meal ideas or tips? Yea!!🎉🎈I actually managed to get in BBG week 1 legs today amongst the newborn and little girl minding, vacuuming, laundry, cooking and my 7 year old’s play date. It was a manic day but at some point in between all of that, the baby was napping and the little girls were busy colouring so I’ll say again...yea!!🎈🎉 Some modifications were made primarily where any jump lunges or squats were required. Jumping can be problematic with a weak pelvic floor so instead of skipping, I took the time to do some pelvic floor strengthening exercises because I need them!! I was really trying to focus on form but think I may have fallen short in the burpee department ☹️. But on the bright side, BBG is just as I remember and this week has been 3/3 so far so pretty proud as it is my first week back. And even more please I can workout from HOME!! Happy Humpday! 💪🏼💦
Today was day two of being back at working out and I feel pretty good. Yesterday I attempted BBG 1.0 week 1 full body and although I got interrupted 3 times, I managed to complete 3 circuits which was good enough for me. Today, successfully completed 40 mins of uninterrupted LISS and it was so much easier than I remember since last time I was pretty pregnant and was barely moving but ready to pass out. I also got 10k steps in which was a huge victory for me seeing as though I was barely getting in 2k since falling pregnant. Eating wise, I did better yesterday as I was tempted by the dreaded double stuff Fudge-o’s and a few sips of Pepsi but I won’t let that bring down my otherwise very successful day. My fitness goals are quite basic at the moment but I think pretty doable and at the moment I need DOABLE as it will motivate me to push on. 1. Drink 4L of water per day (you really need to stay hydrated when breastfeeding and of course exercising) so don’t forget my water bottle! 2. Don’t count calories but eat nutrient rich food and sensibly 3. Aim to get 10k steps a day 4. 3 BBG resistance sessions in a week even if they are super modified and broken up. Getting my little girl into workout out with me too as it’s just fun to have a workout partner And that’s it!!! Two days down and already done pretty well so hoping to keep up the pace. Baby spam! The little one is 5 weeks and a day and just perfect in every way. Sleeps like a dream and just such a good baby. Life with two little ones is a challenge but such a great one and looking forward to mastiff the balance, if possible. My little girl, his big sister is so incredible and being such a huge help and so loving. I even got her to do some squats and burpees with me yesterday while this little one napped. Lissing on the treadmill as I type and enjoying a little me time too! Even though I don't reach my goal of 10,000 steps every day, I am still happy that I meet a monthly average above 10,000 steps! Some days I'm stuck in the office and there's just nothing to do about it but as long as I am doing what I can do get out and move there's nothing more I can do! I've been trying to get up early to go for a walk with the dog before work to get in 5,000 steps before getting to work but it's still a struggle to get up when it's freezing cold and dark!
