If you don't want to read the rest of this, just know that you're awesome and I hope you have an amazing day 😀*WARNING, I BELIEVE IN BASIC HUMAN DECENCY. IF YOU DON'T THEN PLEASE DON'T SPREAD HATE ON MY POST, I'LL JUST DELETE IT ANYWAY* I recently had the pleasure of watching a much-needed video on YouTube. Due to our passion for human rights, many of us LGBTQA+ activists and feminists forget that just because someone disagrees doesn't automatically make them less worth our time. The video I watched was run by a channel with what appeared to be a conservative bias, and featured the host discussing gender identity with anyone who was willing to talk. I didn't fully agree with anyone featured, but I appreciated the effort to spark conversation. It is one of the few examples I know of a logical, well-intended debate between liberal and conservative minds. I was hoping the comment section would be similar, but uh, as you can see...Yeah, that pissed me off to say the least. Anyway, because I have followers of ALL kinds, and because this Instagram page is always a safe space for anyone, whether we agree politically or not, I just wanted to let you know that you guys are amazing, awesome, and beautiful. It doesn't matter to me if you are a Republican, Democrat, a third party, or independent. I don't care if you're black, white, brown, yellow, red, heck, you could be purple for all I care. It doesn't matter to me whether your hair is short, long, natural, or dyed. I don't care if you're able-bodied or disabled. It doesn't matter to me whether you're fat, thin, plus-size, or straight size. I don't care if you're young or old. It doesn't matter to me if you are mentally well or mentally ill. I don't care if you are perfect or far from it. It doesn't to me if you're LGBTQA+ or straight, because you are still a person. You still deserve love. You still deserve respect. You are still entitled to basic human rights. And you are still welcome to be my friend. Good luck with finals, and enjoy your snow day. #30DaysInTransition - 1/18/18: I joke around that I’m pregnant because I’m on progesterone which is the hormone that spikes when you get pregnant, but the reality is, it’s very likely I will never carry a child. I was born without a uterus. I went to the women’s march last year in LA and felt a nagging discomfort from all the uterus and “pussy” signs. As if a woman with a uterus is the only kind of woman that experiences misogyny. Or what about when America’s Next Top Model returns to TV, not only without a trans model, but an entire photoshoot with prosthetic pregnant bellies. Tyra stops panel to make a disclaimer. I become hopeful, thinking maybe she’ll acknowledge that not all women can get pregnant, that trans women are valid. She talks about teen pregnancy instead. Instead of saying cis women, I constantly hear “real women” as if a trans woman is fiction, a fabrication. These are all what I’ve learned are called microagressions, the everyday verbal, non-verbal and environmental snubs that communicate negative messages to a minority group. Trans women ARE women and our experiences are valid regardless of when we blossom into our authentic selves. . . . ‘30 Days in Transition’ is a conversation. I want to hear your stories. Comment below and share your experiences using the ‘’ hashtag. More tomorrow!
