Here's a technique you should know if you're looking to add on a little muscle and shape to your body. - Mechanical Drop Sets - All kinds of different ways you can incorporate these, but basically it's just prolonging a set on a particular muscle or muscle group by choosing a harder version first and then an easier one. - In this case, the Romanian Deadlift is highly focused on the glutes and hamstrings, I do 8 reps at a weight that's pretty rough for 8. - But then, I switch to Trap Bar Deadlifts off the floor which allows me to use more quads. My Butt and hamstrings are still working, but we added in more quad to keep the set going. - Wouldn't really recommend this for those dieting, mayyybe with lower weight to finish off a workout. - I was spent after 4 sets of this. FYI I'm also very shallow on my RDLs because too much hip bend and I get some flare ups from my impingement -- many people can get more depth easily. - Questions or comments? Learning a movement teachers your body how to make that movement as easy as possible given your current abilities. So your tension and intensity in the working muscle is limited to what that learned pattern allows. Learning to create intense amounts of tension on demand allows you create intensity at any point of the rep. While it would be extremely easy to throw up this load given that the majority of the resistance is all at the top, instead I am using control and peaking my intensity of contraction and muscular tension exactly where I want it, where the resistance is the hardest. Then I can finish off the muscle with a few reps that are easier mechanically because of the inertia from the start. If you didn’t understand any of that here is why you should care. If you train movement patterns, you get stronger when your doing them and weaker when you’re not. When you get good at controlling your muscles, and producing intensity on command you transfer that strength very easily every where you go and you lose much less when you take a break from a workout. I haven’t really trained legs, let alone heavy for a month, and haven’t done heavy leg extensions in likely 2 months.
