I have to wear a workuniform so I have my pump in my breast-pocket and the tubing inside my shirt. — today my coworker asked me: “so... is it better now?” “What?” “Do you still take shots before you eat every time you eat?” “It can’t get better” — and you have to accept that, even though people around you won’t. They talk and they ask and they want it to get better for me. I’m just happy to be alive though, I’m satisfied with taking a shot (or in my case now, insulin via pump) because otherwise I wouldn’t be able to be here at all. #perspective #diabetes

“In almost every professional field, in business and in the arts and sciences, women are still treated as second-class citizens. It would be a great service to tell girls who plan to work in society to expect this subtle, uncomfortable discrimination--tell them not to be quiet, and hope it will go away, but fight it. A girl should not expect special privileges because of her sex, but neither should she "adjust" to prejudice and discrimination.” - ‘The Feminine Mystique’ by Betty Friedan . . . Betty Friedan (4 Feb 1921 - 4 Feb 2006) was an American writer, activist, and feminist. Her book, ‘The Feminine Mystique’ was published #onthisday in 1963, and is often credited with sparking second-wave feminism in the 20th Century. . . . Betty Friedan co-founded and was elected first president of the National Organisation of Women (NOW), which aimed to bring women into the mainstream of American society in equal partnership with men. As early as the 1960s, Friedan was critical of polarised and extreme factions of feminism that attacked men and homemakers. A highly influential author, Betty Friedan was an active advocate for women’s equality for the rest of her life. . . . #historicwoman #BettyFriedan #TheFeminineMystique #book #published #OTD #thisdayinhistory #history #womenshistory #womeninhistory #1960s #feminism #equality #equalrights #womensrights #now #fight #prejudice #discrimination #feminist #author #writer #womanwriter #activist #iconicfeminist #inspirational #influential #quote #feministquote
Recently a few of my close friends and family have become pregnant. Some of them have decided to throw baby showers, a popular American tradition, that has now been adopted by many in the UK . Although baby showers seem like harmless fun and can be quite enjoyable, a question that always sticks in the back of my mind is: Should we be throwing a party to celebrate something that isn't even here yet? After all, nothing is guaranteed and there is always the sad possibility that a woman could lose her baby during the end stages of pregnancy or even during labour. May Allah protect us from facing such a hardship . Perhaps people will label me a pessimist for thinking in such a way but I don't think it has anything to do with positive or negative thinking. It's an acknowledgment of the fact that nothing is in our hands and Allah has control over all . There is nothing wrong with wanting to celebrate the birth or coming of your child. But why not wait to throw a party once the baby is here. You'll definitely know what to buy and in what colour and size. You could dress up and have a theme, play the same games, presents could be given in the same way and it'll give everyone the opportunity to meet the new arrival too. You could even go with all of the above fun and incorporate it into an aqeeqah (Islamic tradition to sacrifice an animal on the birth of a child and to distribute it's meat to the poor) celebration for your child. That way you'll be following the sunnah and helping the poor too . Imagine thinking our society blamed or were biased against muslims or people of colour when they commit crimes. Well this mindset has been adopted by liberals such as Megyn Kelly who blamed the officer who shot the attacker ,who was literally stabbing people at the time, because she thought it was overreacting to kill the terrorist. A police officer was blamed for doing his job. This is liberalism, defending terrorists and blaming police officers. • #conservative #democrat #liberal #republican #political #politics #feminist #antifeminist #adminsneeded #admin #intersectionality #intersectionalfeminism #sjw #problackandwhite #blacklivesmatter #alllivesmatter #women #men #reverseracism #racism #prejudice
