Happy Taco Tuesday #FitFam . Today was my first ever Barre class and I loved it. . . The workout was very different from what I am used to in BBG, PWR or OTF. I am more used to intense cardio, weight training, and HIIT so I felt compelled to make bigger movements. I had to resist as the focus was on very small movements. The mindset of this workout is "Think Small". You’ll be surprised at how much of a workout you’ll get from moving just an inch. . . For those of you who don't know, Barre is a ballet-inspired workout that sculpts your muscles (even if you’re far from a ballerina). The workout focuses on very small, isometric movements combined with stretches to lengthen muscles. During a barre class, you’ll often be switching from moves done at the barre to Pilates exercises, and sometimes to yoga poses. . . I was confused in the beginning and had to learn the concept of "Tuck" but that shaking felt so good! I worked the muscles in my body that I did not know existed!. . Thank you Krystel @krizzle.bear for introducing me to Barre. Can't wait to go there again. . . . Growing up I was never the small one of the group. - I felt like I never fit in, all my friends in elementary school were petite, and I felt like an oger standing next to them. I wore baggy shirts, and at age 7 I cried for days when a boy called me "chubby" - So once of age, and realizing I can control my life, I decided to lose some weight (mind you I didn't need to, but wanted to). I started to lose weight, endorphins flowed through my brain, the thinner I looked the more of a high I would get. - This is it. I'm finally not the chubby one. - And as this continued, the thinner I got and the more it became a problem. - I worked so hard to lose the weight, to be known as now the athletic, small girl, to tell me I had to gain the weight back just seems absurd. - But it had to be done. And so it did. - With research on research of nutrition, and personal training, I chose to educate myself. I did this to save myself. The more I knew, the more I discovered about the human body, my body, the easier it was for me to accept the weight gain. - So whatever demon you're facing, educate yourself about it. Strip it down until it's bare, become comfortable with it. Knowledge is power. - Once I realized I can achieve the look I really want by eating more, my mind was blown, and a call of action was put into place. - I no longer want to be the small girl, I am no longer determined based on my size. - I am just Erica. And if I did it, you can too. That is not an opinion, but a fact. - #selflove

During my workout yesterday I looked around and started thinking to myself , “wow, even after years of working out in a gym this is stilll intimidating AF” 😳 even though we know everyone is in their own little world, there’s still those moments when you accidentally make eye contact with someone and it makes you want to completely abort mission and go find your comfort zone where no one will notice you. This post goes out to all the ladies (and men, too!) that have overcome that fear and have learned how to get in the zone! 💪🏻👊🏻 And here’s to everyone that still hasn’t broken out of their shell yet at the gym- YOU CAN DO IT. Put some headphones in, have a plan of action before you go, act confident and only focus on the workout and how your body feels! Even if you feel silly (like while doing hip thrusts 😅) stay in the zone, don’t care what other people think and know that it’s worth it. Remember, everyone at the gym is there to work on themselves. You have to do the same to be able to take your workouts to the next level. Bridge Lifts with bands 10 - 20 moves Jumping Jacks then Star Jumps 30 sec Bridge Lifts + Knee out + bands 10-20 moves Skaters 30 sec Side Lunge 10 ea side High Knees 30 sec Sumo Squat with weights 10-20 moves Burpees 30 sec Leg lifts 10 on each side Mountain Climbers 30 sec . 👉🏼👉🏼Repeat 1x or 2x. If you want to push yourself, increase your cardio time to 1 min. See what you can do now and then challenge yourself every day to do more! you got this!💫🌈💫
Wore some Air Force PT gear to do my workout today. It felt good to wear this uniform and not feel stuffed into like when I was still in. This set is actually smaller than the set I had when I got out. I couldn’t get to the gym so I pulled out the Wii and did Wii fit for an hour. It’s amazing how quickly your workout goes by when you are having fun.
