Slow progress is better than no progress. Slow progress is more likely to last a lifetime, than to rush and force habits that will burn you out quickly and possibly leave you feeling worse than when you first started. The picture on the left was taken at the end of my yoga teacher training and at the start of my teaching career. I was not nearly as flexible nor strong as I am now. The picture on the right is a result of a lot of work, patience and dedication to staying consistent with my practice. So, if you’re wondering if you can achieve flexibility and strength, where you are today, the answer is yes. Legs long and engaged (tighten the knees), feet a few inches apart with toes untucked. . 3. Place the palms on the floor close to the waist, fingers pointing forward. . 4. Push down to lift the chest, hips, and legs off the mat. Weight is destributed between the palms and the toes (or top of feet). . 5. Buttock contacts, spine long, arms lengthen and arm close to the body. . 6. Open up the chest (heart), relax the shoulders away from the ears, neck fully lengthen and gaze forward or slightly up. . 7. Stay in pose for 30 secs and take deep full breaths in and out of the nose. . 8. Bend your elbows to slowly release and lie on the floor. . Just playing around upside down 🤸🏼‍♀️ . Forearm stand is one of my “goal poses”. It used to be so far from possible but I’ve come quite a ways. With some more opening in the thoracic spine and further strengthening in the core, I’ll actually be able to find the stacked, straight position that allows much more stability.
