When was the last time.you made something only for yourself? Not for your children or your husband, you parents or your wife, or even for Instagram or Facebook? . . . I used to always love cooking for myself. My brothers - a whole lot of them - and sister were my benefactors. Also my guinea pigs. They bore everything I made - from poha and upma to noodles and pizzas - and have many harrowing tales to tell. (Thankless fatso's, I tell you!) But did I care? No..I carried on unperturbed, cooking what I like and how I liked it. If course there was the mother and the aunt's to fix things that went horribly wrong (that story some other time). This continued till I married and cooking became a chore. . . Eventually kids were had, friends were made, husband was to be fed. And cooking for myself became an added task that could easily be done away with. Plus the brothers and sister grew up and thought I was the worst cook..🙄. . . Off late though, once in a while, I have started making things I like. In the beginning it was hard to even remember what I liked, so I started eliminating what I did not like bit ate none the less. Then I started focussing on things that I used to love but no longer made - it was just so inconvenient, you see. . . This morning after sending kids to school, despite the urge to eat the leftover tiffin as breakfast, I made myself bathua parathas, served some achaar (also made only for myself and shared with the brother who still values it) and some malai. And it was the most perfect meal I had had in many days. . . #upkakhana #travelgram #india #indiantravel #solotravel #writersofinstagram #wanderlust #travel #travelwriting #huffposttravel #travelwriter #instatravel #instawriting #instafood #indianwriter #indiantraveler #bbcgoodfood #foodgawker #huffpostgram #huffposttaste #womantraveller #selflove #travelstagram #Explore #TheTravelWoman #WeAreTravelGirls #shetravels
Monday morning. . . . A lot of people ask me for recipes. But honestly I have none. I follow no specific recipe for most of my cooking. . . Having started to cook at 10, out of choice I must tell you, I do have a basic sense of ingredients and their function, and that helps me cook... Although there are somethings, especially those that Dadi or Nani made, that I try to make with the recipe. This pasta is not one of them. . . If you want to enjoy cooking start playing with ingredients and imagination, or cooking will be nothing but a chore. . . . https://anubhutikrishna.wordpress.com/2018/02/18/karnataka-food-center-much-ado-about-nothing/ . . #home cooking #travelgram #india #indiantravel #solotravel #writersofinstagram #wanderlust #travel #travelwriting #huffposttravel #travelwriter #instatravel #instawriting #instafood #indianwriter #indiantraveler #bbcgoodfood #foodgawker #huffpostgram #huffposttaste #womantraveller #travelstagram #Explore #TheTravelWoman #WeAreTravelGirls #shetravels
So this morning I excitedly posted some pictures of my breakfast, something I usually not do until after I have eaten it. There were two reasons for that. One: I had been planning to go to the place -- a stare run canteen -- for more than two years now. Two: I was excited to see my favorite menu from Bangalore available in Delhi. Then there well kannada speaking staff and #nandhanipeda and #mysorepak too. The food looked good too. . . But this city often teaches you one thing -- looks do not always determine the value of something. The good looking food in a soulful place turned out to be a damp squib. There was no taste or flavor. The sambar was lukewarm, the dosa lacked crunch. The kesribaath had no ghee or sugar, the #upma lacked any taste. Chutney, dosa was sad too. The only thing that was worth the while was coffee. Not outstanding but filter coffee nonetheless. . . While the State Canteens in Delhi are often considered the epitome of local cuisine, it is only when you check them out that you know most of it is only noise. Especially in this #instagram and #facebook era where all people look at is face value. So, while andhrabhavan goasadan and chattisgarhbhavan have their charm, this left me unhappy and dissatisfied. . P.S. Maybe I am over reacting. It's just a plate of food after all. But then only when you have eaten the #bangalorefood would you know why my heart broke this morning. . #travelgram #india #indiantraveller #writersofinstagram #wanderlust #travel #travelwriting #huffposttravel #travelwriter #instatravel #instawriting #instafood #foodreview #bbcgoodfood #foodgawker #huffpostgram #huffposttaste #foodjudge #travelstagram #tasty #WeAreTravelGirls #shetravels
The minute you say #jaipur, first thing that comes to mind is kachauri and lassi. Second is the #laalmaas. While these may have their charm, especially for the outsiders, there's something else that the locals thrive on. . . . . These pakodis, or the deep fried dumplings, are made with ground moong dal and seasoned with coriander seeds, green chilies, coriander leaves, onions and salt. The homemade mixture rests in a large pan and is beaten vigorously before being dunked into smoking hot oil. Each batch consisting hundreds of pakodis lasts barely a few minutes. . .
