Here's the thing about getting kids to eat healthy food: if they're hungry, they will eat it. They might not like everything that is healthy, but if it's their only choice on their plate then they will eat it. And keep it simple! Bake a batch of sweet potatoes and store them in your refrigerator (yummy re heated or cold). Cut up cheese or tofu into bite size pieces and store in your refrigerator to grab and toss on salads, steamed veggies, or eat plain. Baking, cutting up, and storing food makes it so much easier to toss together a healthy meal. . I try to always start my toddler's meals with healthy veggies and proteins. If he eats it all, then I give him more and sometimes add less nutritious food like the Graham crackers or gold fish he loves. He is usually full from healthy food, so he eats less of the processed foods. Today for lunch he ate a half of a sweet potato, olives, tofu, a cheese stick, carrot, and one prune. Simple. Healthy. Keeping it simple and delicious. Veggie stir fry and chicken. . I used to stress about what I was going to cook (and sometimes still do). I would get intimidated by recipes, especially ones with multiple ingredients. So I would do the easy thing and eat pre-made food. I would tell myself that the frozen dinners were healthier than fast food. But I was wrong. Maybe they had less calories, but they were just as processed with added chemicals and fillers that my body didn't need. Plus the servings were so small that I either ate two of them or was starving 20 minutes later. . Now I'm not a gourmet cook, but I have changed what I eat. I pick whole foods and try my best to turn them into yummy flavorful dishes. Sometimes I suceed, and sometimes I don't. Either way, I know that I am eating healthier and I feel more satisfied afterwards. Keep it simple and experiment with your foods. Some days I have motivation to workout. And some days I don't. And that's where dedication and discipline comes in. Because you won't be motivated every day, which is okay (and normal). Diacipline is what you will need to tap into instead of motivation. . Discipline is the reason I worked out today. And I got to tell you, every move felt hard. And that's okay too. I went slower, I modified moves, and I lifted lighter than I usually do. And I'm still proud of myself. Why? Because I didn't give up. I did my best in the moment. I completed the entire workout. When your child wakes up from a very short nap, do you ever think: Maybe if I'm super quiet he/she will go back to sleep? . Here's what I was told: naptime is your time as a Mom, so do something for yourself instead of housework. Um...on what planet? Where's my ticket?! 😂😂 . Most of the time my child will only nap in the stroller/car/rocking chair so there are very few things I can do for "me." And who is going to do the housework, and when exactly would it get done? 🤔 . I do love listening to podcasts and reading during naptime. But I also like to use then find to tidy up (When I can get away from my toddler without waking him up). It's Throwback Thursday and I can't help but celebrate all of the strong dedicated women in my accountability group. Like Carrie, who has been working hard to eat healthy and move her body every day. She has lost 25 lbs and 10 inches in her waist alone since August! . She makes our group fun by sharing videos with her thoughts on the workout she completed, or unexpected things that happened during her workout (like when she had a piece of hair annoying her and it turns out it was spider tickling her back: ahhh!!) . I am so proud of her for all of her efforts to improve her health. She's performing in a play called “Gypsy” and her increased confidence is shining through! I'm so happy for you, @carrie_cramer_phillips !
The only way I can get my toddler to nap these days is walking with him in the stroller. On the bright side, it gives me a chance to listen to podcasts!
Sometimes you just want to eat all the food in sight. Stress or boredom cause you to reach for a bag of chips or M&M's. You go too long without eating and start to feel ravenous and want to eat a giant meal to fill you up. The cookies or muffins are sitting on the counter staring at you, tempting you every time you walk into the kitchen. All the "healthy" food takes too long to prepare and isn't "convenient" like a fast food burger and fries would be. All of these things make you want to eat processed and packaged foods, and likely overindulge because they taste so dang good! . Look, I get it! I was running errands and didn't bring any snacks with me this afternoon. I was gone longer than I had planned and when I got home I was so hungry! I wanted to eat everything that was convenient and easy to over-consume. I paused, cooked some healthy whole foods, and ate a moderate meal instead. I was still hungry after the last bite, but I knew that I just needed to give my stomach time to signal my brain that I was full. I walked away from the kitchen and occupied myself with something else. . Was it easy to avoid the Cheeze-Its in my cupboard? No. Did it take longer to choose healthy foods? No, not really, but it felt like more "work." Did I want to eat more than a proper portion size? Yes. But I didn't. Because I have goals. And overeating is not going to help me achieve those goals.
